Title – Race to Write

By – Mary Drouillard

Primary Subject – Other

Secondary Subjects – Language Arts (Foreign Language)

Grade Level – 5-8

Objective: to learn the French way to write the date (day, month, year)

The class is divided into two teams. One person from each team stands at the back of the room. The teacher calls out a date in French — “le 6 janvier, 2002″ Students race to the board and the first team to write the correct “6/1/2002″ gets the point. The team cheers “allez les bleus!” or “allez les jaunes!” when their team gets a point. This can also be adapted to many other subjects. Or the teacher could say the date in English and the student would write it out in French on the board.
