A group of parents: 3 hours

Topic: What are my options for childcare?

Resources: a daycare facility in the neighborhood,
lecture using power point presentation,
group discussion, access to computers, video, and
video equipment

Rationale:

This is one of many sessions focused on child care. Today we will focus specifically
on the options that we all have when looking for a child care provider. The parents will
visit two child care facilities, watch videos on others, and talk from experience about
the choices that they have. We will the discuss some of the things that we are looking
for in each facility that tells us that it is a quality day care provider. We will then discuss
the pros and cons of each type of facility.

Objectives:

Upon completion of this session the parents will be able to adequately choose a quality
daycare provider for their child by evaluating all of their options, through the writing of
assessment papers with 100% accuracy.

To go more in detail the learner’s will be able to:
evaluate all of the daycare options available in our area
adequately choose a provider based on their income, etc.
know the signs of a poor quality day care provider
list the pros and cons of all facilities
get on the internet to find providers suitable to their needs.
