Title – Study Skills Unit Plan Estimated time frame: 5-6 class periods Tennessee Curriculum Standard (6-8): Acquiring basic skills and attitudes for learning Tennessee Student Competency:
Describe ways to organize study area at school and home Estimated length of unit: 5-6 class periods
Materials needed: computer lab with internet access Teacher Preparation: Check all URL’s to be sure they are still working. Lesson 1: The Study Environment Divide the class into small groups of 4-5 students. Ask each group to appoint a scribe to take notes. Look up the internet sites below and have students compare how they study at home with suggestions made on these pages. Finally, they should come up with their suggestions as to how their own study environment might be improved. Assignment: Prepare a poster demonstrating one of the student competencies given above. Poster and a brief oral explanation will be due at the end of the unit study.
