Title - ME Quilt for the First Day of School
By - April Scurlock
Primary Subject - Other
Grade Level - K-12

While in college, I had to do a ME Quilt to introduce myself to my classmates. This was a wonderful icebreaker for the entire class. The ME Quilt is much like the ME Box, but it is laid out in a quilt, instead of a box.

I used a large sheet of bulletin board paper. I divided it into nine squares. Each square represented something different about me. In the middle square, I have a picture of my husband and me. Each of the other squares represents my favorite things. I hang it on the white board each year and discuss it with the kids on our first day of school. Their assignment is to make one by the end of the first week. We share them with the class and learn so much about each other. Even classmates who thought they knew their best friend, usually learn something new.

I have had a lot of success with this project. Last year, a parent came to school and got involved with helping the children make the quilts. We really had a fun time!
