Title - Fun Getting Acquainted Activity Using Straws!
By - Chantel Sloan
Primary Subject - Other
Grade Level - K-5

Before beginning the activity, buy brightly colored drinking straws that come in a variety of colors and think up a get-to-know-you question for each straw-color ahead of time. The questions can vary greatly, depending on your grade level. For example:

Pink straws: What is your favorite animal?
Blue straws: How many brothers and sisters do you have?
Green straws: What is your favorite food?
Yellow straws: Do you have any pets?
Purple straws: Who is your favorite singer?

The questions can be whatever you want to ask, but the point is that each color is assigned a DIFFERENT question. Then, on the first day of school, have students pick 2 or 3 DIFFERENT COLORED straws without telling them what they'll be used for. Then, do a color at a time to ask the questions. For instance, if you start with the pink straw, every child (one at a time) with pink straws will have to say their name and answer the pink question. So, every student will have to answer 2-3 different questions depending on which colors they chose!
