Music Staff Review Game Grade Level: 4-6 Shelly Stockton
This is more of a game than a lesson plan, but I’ve found it extremely effective for
1. Use masking tape to “design” a large staff on the floor of your room. On a large piece
2. Split class into 2 groups and have each line up in front of the staff. Choose a clef
3. Have the entire class say the name of the treble clef lines, “E-G-B-D-F” or “Every Good 4. Name a note from Treble clef lines, like “G”
5. The first student in each line race to see who can step on the “G” line first. Game
My students love this game and beg to play it. Here are some alternative ideas to use with
Switch back and forth between clefs as they gain confidence and have notes written on board
Keep score. One point earned per win and points lossed if entire team doesn’t “say” the
Have a tournament. Challenge the winner yourself and offer a prize if the student beats
Use the game as an incentive for completed work throughout the year. They call it a “party”
