Title – Sing the Vowels

By – Kay Baker

Primary Subject – Music

Secondary Subject – LA
Grade Level – 1

Using the tune to “B-I-N-G-O” you can quickly teach the children the five vowels and ‘y’ as a vowel. After we have learned the song with the actual letter names, we then learn it with the short vowel sounds. The song is very simple.

There are five vowels in the alphabet and this is what their names are:

A, E, I, O, U

A, E, I, O, U

A, E, I, O, U

And then there’s sometimes ‘y’.

Leave off a vowel and clap that letter as in the original song until all are done. By the second week of school, the children almost all know the vowel long and short sounds. It makes teaching reading go a whole lot faster.
