Title - Getting Warmer: Learning Music Concepts
By - Louise
Primary Subject - Music
Secondary Subjects -
Grade Level - K - 3
GETTING WARMER
You will need: A tuned (preferably) music instrument (OR lots of table thumping children - slow/fast beat only)
Aim: Teaching musical concepts with a gradient, ie - soft to loud, low to high, slow to fast.
Choose one child to stand facing a corner with hands over their eyes. while they are doing this, choose 'it' by pointing at a child or touching him/her on the top of the head so that the rest of the class can see who is chosen.
"We're ready"
The child with closed eyes in the corner must now find the chosen member in the class. as they walk closer to 'it' play sounds which are higher (or faster, or louder) and as they walk further away from 'it' play lower (or slower, or softer).
Variation: Have the children seated at their desks thumping a beat collectively faster or slower as the child gets nearer or further to "it".
Good Fun!
