There are numerous activities that can be used with the cards. Have students arrange the notes into a note tree with the whole note at the top. Have them put the dotted half note to the side. You can add the rests at a later time. You can challenge them to see who can get it done first. Students use the cards on the desktop to notate the rhythms that the teacher says. ( Start with a medium-slow tempo and give them the rhythm at least twice. As they improve in accuracy, increase the tempo and say it just once. Say the rhythm, then have them say it after you. When all students have it, have them touch the cards as they say the rhythm. When they can easily handle one four-count exercise, try two measures to increase their concentration. Later you can try clapping the rhythm for them to notate.
