COUNTING PATTERNS AND ADDING/MULTIPLICATION

Multiply by 6 and others.

Attention getter: Bring in a large insect

(Use plastic insects available at most any stores.)

Lesson: Students find common visual characteristic, which is six legs. Have students model( in groups of 3 or 4) the multiplication problem for (__x 6). Find the answers using the insects.

2′s—feet/hands/eyes/ears/elbows/knees/

3′s–tricycle/street lights/triangle

4′s–buttons with 4 holes/toy cars’ wheels

5′s–nickels/clock face/fingers and toes/pentagon/star points

6′s–above/hexagon

7′s–?? insect legs for 6 and count head

8′s–spider legs/octagon

9′s–?? spider legs for 8 and count head
