Title - Count the Candles
By - Mary Cullinane Cofone
Primary Subject - Math
Secondary Subjects - Language Arts, Other
Grade Level - Pre-K

Procedure:
Here's a simple math, language, and fine motor skills lesson for the little ones!

Purchase a simple menorah and a box of Hanukkah candles. The children count (and strengthen their fingers) while placing the eight candles and the Shamash (the candle used to light the other ones) in the menorah. Because Hanukkah candles are typically many colors, you can also work on color matching, receptive and expressive color identification, and even patterning skills.

If you don't have a menorah and candles, you can always use construction paper to make a 2-dimensional picture.
