By - Debbie Haren
Primary Subject - Math
Secondary Subjects -
Grade Level - 3rd grade

Materials:
Play money
Play coin money
Grocery store coupons
pencil
paper
pretend cash register if possible
pretend food

Activity:

Have students pretend to shop for food. Have other students be the "calculators" adding up the groceries. Have other students being the cashiers and other students give the change back to the customers.

IF the students have coupons then the "calculators" need to take off the price of the coupons and then let the customer know how much they owe.

The cashier will be in charge of letting the students know how much they get back in change.

Have the students take turns being different people and see how they do at giving change, making change and adding up the totals.
