This is an idea to use after introducing addition and discussing and working with different numbers to add to get the same sum. Call out a number of students to go to the front of the room. Tell them to work together to make two groups showing an addition problem for the number of students. (Example: Eight students may decide to make two groups of four; or one group of five and one group of three). Then have each group to say their number together plus the second group equals... Have them to keep regrouping showing all the different ways to add and get the same sum. The students love it.
