Lesson Plan Subject: Language Arts
Lesson Plan Title: The Important Thing About Reading
Grade Level: 7-8
Class: Reading/Developmental Reading
Introduction: I teach reading classes for students who do not generally see the value of reading. I use this to make them think about the value and importance of reading.
Materials: Margaret Wise Brown's "The Imporant Book", plain white paper for each student, markers/colored pencils
Objective:
1. Students will examine what is important about reading.
2. Students will complete a short writing using the format from Margaret Wise
Brown's book, "The Important Book."
- Students will use compete sentences and correct punctuation.
Lesson:
1. Read "The Important Book" by Maragaret Wise Brown to the class.
2. Have students give you the format of each section of the book. "The important thing about_____ is _____", general information about the topic, "But the important thing about _____ is _____".
3. Ask students to write, "The important thing about reading is _____" entry and include an illustration.
4. I make a "The Important Thing About Reading" class book after students share their entries.
- "The Important Book" can be used with any topic you want your students to examine.
