Title – Romeo & Juliet License Plates

By – Jeff DePew

Subject – Language Arts

Grade Level – 7th to 12th

After we finish the play, I have the students think up some creative “personalized license plates” for various characters. Some use quotes. EX. “LYKAROZ” (like a rose) “JLTZSUN” (Juliet is the sun) Popular characters include Romeo, Juliet, The Nurse, Mercutio, and Tybalt (KNGOCTS – KIng of cats).

The students put the license plates on rectangular pieces of paper, and color or highlight however they want. Some like to add touches like registration stickers or license plate frames (“Hit me, I need the Ducats”) They have as much fun trying to guess what the other plates say as they do making their own. And this can be used for any work of literature.
