Title - 5 Step Lesson Plan - Quotation Marks

Secondary Subjects -
Grade Level - Kindergarten - 1st Grade
Lesson Vitals:
1. Topic of Lesson: Language Arts
2. Objective: Students will understand and demonstrate proper use of quotation marks.
3. Materials: Teacher-White board and supplies (magnets, markers, and eraser), overhead projector and prepared transparency, prepared sentence strips, and copies of worksheets for students. Students-Pencil, red crayon, construction paper, scissors, Elmer's glue, Macaroni.

4. Key vocabulary: Quotation marks, commas, conversation, punctuation, capitalization, speaker, and separate.
5. Grade Level: 2

Step 1- Anticipatory Set:
1. Focus: Post and discuss rules as relate to the use of quotation marks, project previous transparency onto board.
2. Objective: Student's will recall information presented previously and review their work for accuracy. Having done so students will be prepared to complete new lesson "Use Your Noodle."
3. Transfer from previous lesson: Discuss the rules for using quotation marks and complete self-corrections of previous lesson.

Step 2 - Instruction:
1. Model the skill: Teacher will project "Use Your Noodle" transparency onto board and explain the directions. Teacher will place prepared sentence strip on the board and demonstrate the placement and gluing of noodle.
2. Check for understanding: Have students view teachers work on the board and ask if there are any questions.

Step 3 - Guided Practice
1. Teacher places three new sentence strips on the board and selects three students to come forward to place noodle on strips.
2. The students who remain at their desks are asked to watch the others work carefully and "challenge" at completion if necessary. Teacher monitors answers to check for correct answers and understanding.

Step 4 - Closure / Review:
1. Review: Teacher restates the rules for proper use of quotation marks.

Step 5 - Independent Practice-

1. Students are provided with "Use Your Noodle" worksheet. Teacher walks around class observing student's work and assisting when needed.

Evaluation: Teacher collects worksheets and reviews for accuracy.
