Title – Food Pyramid (Piramide de Comida)

General Goal(s):
Spanish – Food – Students should be able to discuss foods they like and dislike.
Specific Objectives:

Students will use food vocabulary and the food pyramid to create a healthy daily diet in the Spanish.

They will present diets in Spanish.
-
They will correctly label a Spanish food pyramid.
Required Materials:

Construction paper
-
Colored pencils
-
Markers

Crayons
-
Example of food pyramid (transparency or SMART board)
Anticipatory Set (Lead-In):
-
Teacher shows the example of the food pyramid and asks students how the food pyramid would be labeled in the target language.

Teacher writes the names of the food groups in the target language on the board or overhead.

Teacher asks students what they eat that might be considered healthy according to the food pyramid.
Step-By-Step Procedures:

Students will discuss daily eating habits, naming familiar foods in Spanish.

Teacher will create a sample diet for one day in Spanish using the transparency or SMART board, using assistance from the students.

Place students into groups of two or three and ask them to create a diet for a day that includes foods from the Piramide de Comida.

Ask students to present their meal plan.
Plan For Independent Practice:

Students will write sentences using me gusta (
I like/it pleases me
) and no me gusta (
I don’t like/it doesn’t please me
) for three of the foods chosen for the meal plan.
Closure (Reflect Anticipatory Set):

Students will share their sentences.

Assessment Based On Objectives:

Students will correctly label the Piramide de Comida for a quiz grade using the same pyramid just without the words. (Students can name a food that goes into the food group rather than using the appropriate word.)
Adaptations (For Students With Learning Disabilities):

Students describe only one meal of the day (breakfast, lunch or dinner).

Allow extra time for the quiz.
Extensions (For Gifted Students):

Students will draw the Piramide de Comida and label it in Spanish.
