Title - Boo Game

Grade Level - K-5
Introduction:
This lesson can be used as a review tool for any subject area. I use it mostly for reading and language arts terms.
Materials: - index cards,
- markers,
- pen, and/or
- stamp
Recipe for cards: Use the marker to write the term on one side and the definition on the opposite side in pen. Repeat with each term you wish to test for that particular subject area. When enough cards are made and discussed with the children, use a Halloween stamp with the word "BOO" in it or create a friendly ghost drawing with the word "BOO" in it. Do this three times. Shuffle the cards.
Game Rules: A student is shown a term. She/he must then say the word and define it correctly. If the answer is correct, the student takes the card, keeps it and makes a pile. This continues for each child until a "BOO" card is shown. When the "BOO" is shown, the student looses her/his turn and the pile is given back to the teacher. The student with the most cards at the end of the game wins!
Reflection:Students love this game! I have used it in grades 3-5 for vocabulary terms in reading as well as subject and predicate for language arts. In grade K-2, I used it for the review of sight words and high frequency words. Students in any grade will be begging to play this game!
