Lesson Plan Title: Daily Quote
Concept / Topic To Teach: Language Arts/Multi
General Goal(s): Students learn some famous quotes. They can also go along with a lesson or unit you are teaching.
Specific Objectives: 1) To have students get in the habit of doing something productive in the time before class starts. 2) To introduce famous or influential quotes into students' lives.
Required Materials: A worksheet made up that says daily/weekly quotes and has the day of the week or a slot for the date. An overhead projector, chalkboard or dry-erase board to write the quote on. A list of quotes to put up with the authors.
Anticipatory Set (Lead-In): Hand out the worksheet one morning and say this: "Today we are going to start a new habit. Before class, you will come in and begin copying a quote on the worksheet I just handed you. You will follow the format and include proper grammar and punctuation in writing it down. I will collect these sheets at the end of every week/2 weeks."
Step-By-Step Procedures: 1) In the morning, write a quote that you have chosen. Write it on the overhead/board and place a stack of the worksheets by the door. As the students come in, remind them they must pick up a worksheet.
2) When the students are finished, have someone read the quote and say what they think it means.
3) Ask students if they know who the author was.
4) At the end of the week or whenever, collect the worksheets. Grade them on grammar and other things, but also grade them on effort and participation.
