Introduction:
    To be an effective public speaker, you must use appropriate gestures and body motions during your speech in order to keep your public interested and entertained. The dullest topic can be enhanced with some strong hand gestures used to highlight important points. A speech on an action topic, however, requires full body motions just to get the point across.
Student Expectations:
  • To understand the use of bodily actions and gestures in public speaking.
  • To identify relevant and meaningful body language for a speech.
  • To determine the relationship between body language and sincere communication.
  • To listen to constructive criticism and determine necessary adaptations to improve public speaking.
How To Choose a Topic For a Speech To Develop Body Language:
  • Students should choose a topic that they're interested in and which they can find source materials. Also, students should adapt their material (speech) to their audience.
How To Prepare A Speech To Develop Body Language:
  • Students should rehearse their speech by practicing bodily actions and gestures. Practicing before a large mirror may help students to observe their whole body rather than just the upper half of it. Have a friend watch and give helpful criticisms and create a well-organized set of spontaneous actions.
How To Present A Speech To Develop Body Language:
  • Students should approach the audience with a determined attitude. Concentrate on one point at a time so that the audience will understand the topic and so that they won't "lose" the audience. Use body language and inflection of tone to emphasize certain points. Use pictures or other visuals to support the presentation.
