HERE ARE THE REQUIREMENTS FOR YOUR BOOK OR MAGAZINE. PLEASE REFER TO THIS PAGE TO CHECK THE DUE DATES ON YOUR PROJECT

THE BOOK MAY BE WRITTEN AS FICTION, OR NON-FICTION. STORY TYPES MAY INCLUDE ADVENTURE, MYSTERY OR HUMOROUS. YOUR BOOK OR MAGAZINE ARTICLES MAY NOT CONTAIN ANY REFERENCES TO DRUGS, SEX OR VIOLENCE WITHOUT MY PRIOR APPROVAL.

REMEMBER, IF YOU CHOOSE TO WRITE A BOOK, THERE WILL BE CHAPTERS IN THIS BOOK. THE BOOK SHOULD BE NO LESS THAN EIGHT BUT NO MORE THAN TEN PAGES LONG. THERE SHOULD BE A MINIMUM OF SIX LINES OF TEXT PER PAGE. THE FONT SIZE SHOULD BE 14. DO NOT USE A CURSIVE FONT. PLEASE REMEMBER, THE BOOK MUST BE ILLUSTRATED.



PROCEDURES FOR WRITING A BOOK
  • Must have a front and back cover.

  • Cover must include title, author, and illustrator.

  • Must have inside title page (dedication page is optional).

  • Chapter books must include table of contents. Table of contents must list topic and corresponding page number.

  • Chapter book must be at least three chapters long.

  • Each chapter should be at least two pages long with a minimum of two paragraphs on each page.

  • Each paragraph must be indented, have a topic sentence, a supporting sentence and a closing sentence.

  • Book must be illustrated. Pictures may be drawn, cut out of a magazine or brought from home.

    IMPORTANT: If you do not want your personal pictures handled, please do not include them in your book or magazine.
PROCEDURES FOR CREATING A MAGAZINE
  • Must have front and back cover. Cover page must have title of magazine, author, and names of featured articles.

  • Cover and back pages must be illustrated.

  • Must have table of contents page with article and page number.

  • Must include at least four (4) articles. Each article must include topic and authors byline and should be a minimum of two (2) paragraphs long.

  • Articles can be informative (tell about something), narrative (tell a story) persuasive (present an idea or argument about something you feel strongly about and may include evidence to support your argument), or descriptive (describing something).

  • Magazine can include poetry, interviews, short story, music or movie reviews, advice columns, puzzles, riddles, jokes (no inappropriate jokes such as "your momma" jokes or dirty jokes), recipes, fashion, etc.

  • Magazines must also include advertisement. These advertisements must be original. (In other words, you must create the ad's yourself). You may write only two full-page ads. Your ads may be included on a feature page.

  • Magazine must include a page dedicated to the 2003-2004 school year. This page must include highlights of the things you liked the most in each of your subjects. For instance, you may have excelled in multiplication. If so, include a math problem for your reader to solve. You may have also liked creating the volcano in science. If so, include a picture of an active volcano. If you enjoyed creating the rainforest in social studies, include a picture of an animal that can be found in each layer of the rainforest. You must have a highlight from each subject.

  • Magazine must be a minimum of 10 pages and no more than 15 pages in length, including advertisements, School year page, and front and back pages.

  • Each page must be numbered.
