Title - Concept of Adjectives

Previous Knowledge and Experience:
    Pupils know what nouns are. They have described objects and people in real life experiences.
Behavioral Objectives:
    At the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to:

    1. Orally define the term adjectives
    2. Construct a simple sentence using adjectives
Teaching Aids:
    Pictures, Worksheets, Sentence strips, Classroom equipment
Lesson Introduction:
    Teacher invites a few pupils to describe their favorite toy or clothes. She then informs the class that today they are going to look at those words that they used to describe their favorite toy or clothes.

  • Words we used to describe people, places and things are called adjectives.

  • Most adjectives come before the noun they describe
Teacher's Strategies
Teacher:
  • presents an object to pupils.
  • tells pupils to describe the object.
  • uses a semantic map to complete exercise
  • informs pupils that all the words they used to describe the objects are called adjectives.
  • elicits from pupils a definition for adjectives.
  • presents definition on sentence strip.
  • instructs pupils to read aloud the definition with her.
  • provides sentences with the adjectives highlighted.
  • questions pupils to elicit that the adjective comes before the noun they describe.
Pupils' Activities
Pupils:
  • observe object.
  • describe the object.
  • observes and notes semantic map.
  • listen attentively.
  • give an appropriate definition for adjectives.
  • observe.
  • read aloud with teacher.
  • read sentences.
  • state that adjectives come before the noun they describe.
Closure:
    Teacher reviews main points: Words we used to describe people, places and things are called adjectives. Most adjectives come before the noun they describe.
Evaluation: Write words used to describe the pictures of objects

Construction of sentences

Teacher's Strategies
  • places pupils in groups and distribute pictures of a person and a black semantic map
  • instructs pupils to use the map to record adjectives used to describe the person in the picture.
  • tells pupils to write a sentence about the person using any adjective previously recorded at the bottom of the semantic map
PUPILS:
  • form groups and collect pictures and blank semantic map.
  • follow instructions.
  • write sentence using adjective from map
