Title - Compound Nouns
By - Jennifer Lopez
Subject - Language Arts
Grade Level - 5th-7th
This is a great activity to introduce your students to nouns, especially compound nouns.

On various notecards, write down half of a compound noun and then the other half on another notecard. I try to throw in a few compound nouns that students might not be familiar with. Mix up the notecards and have each student choose one. Then instruct them that they are to find the other half of their compound noun. This gets the students up and moving around and we all know how much they enjoy that! Once a student has found his or her pair, verify that they are matched up correctly and have them sit together. After all the students have found their respective halves, write all the compound nouns on the board and have the students define them.

It's a fun activity which your students will truly enjoy!
