Writing Structure

Concept:
The importance of structure in technical writing

Skills:
Define different types of structure for technical writing
Design list of instructions

Lesson Objectives:
Students will discuss forms of technical writing

Lesson Activity:
Students will complete 5b and 5d. Teacher will lecture on importance of Content, Focus, and Purpose in a document. Students will complete 6a-6b individually and then will discuss as a class. Students then will make groups of three and design a list of instructions to do something (ex. Turn on the computer). When finished, students will demonstrate the instructions (purpose: showing how instructions sometimes are not always clear).
Homework: 6c-6d.

Assessments:
D: Completion of 5b and 5d; F: design a list of instructions; S: demonstrate list of instructions.

Grade:
Completion of 5b, 5d, 6a, 6b = 8 points
Participation with "instructions" = 5 points
TOTAL = 13 points
