Title - Finish the Sentence
By - Colleen Kurtzhalts
Subject - Language Arts, Computers
Grade Level - 4-5
Materials: Finish the Sentence handout sheet & a computer with any word processing such as WordPad.

This lesson teaches computer keyboarding skills as well as sentence structure and learning to use the bold and underline formatting features in word processing.

Type beginnings of short story sentences, such as:

This summer the most fun I had was when . . .
My favorite holiday is . . .
You would be surprised to know that I can . . .
Sometimes I just like to . . .
I like school because . . .

Type as many as you want your class to complete. Print and make copies for students. Ask the students to retype the beginning and format it so that it is underlined. Then they complete the sentence and format it so that it bold. Students must use correct sentence case and punctuation. My fifth grade really enjoyed it!
