Primary Subject - Language Arts
Grade Level - 1-3

I don't remember where I saw this, so I don't want to take the credit for it! I have 7 lunch bags with a letter on the outside of each one: a W on one, an E on the next one, L on the following one, until you have WELCOME. Beforehand, you put items that begin with each letter into the appropriate bag. Ex: I have put in a Whistle, Wheel, Whale, etc. In the E bag, I've put an Egg, Elephant, etc. I give the students a few minutes to write down what they think is in each bag. After a few minutes I let them tell me their guesses and of course show them what items are in each bag! Kids usually enjoy "guessing" games and it also gives me an opportunity to teacher-watch their basic writing skills.
