Title - My Hero

Secondary Subjects - Social Studies, Language Arts
Grade Level - K - 12
Description: Students will create a story about their hero. Students are to include pictures and describe why they chose that person as their hero. They will use Photo Story 3 to create their presentation.
Goals: Students will gain a better understanding of Photo Story 3 and how to create an effective presentation.
Objectives: - Students will learn how to create a story script for their presentation using storyboards.
- Students will learn to use Photo Story 3 to create their presentation.
- Students will get to know their classmates better by the hero they choose.
Required Materials: Students will need:
- A storyboard to create a rough draft of their presentation.
- A hero with pictures.
- A computer with internet access.
- Photo Story 3 (available for download from Microsoft.com).
- A media projector for the presentation.
Anticipatory Set: - Students and teacher will discuss what a hero is and what qualities a hero has. Students will learn how to create a storyboard.
- Teacher will model the elements of a Photo Story presentation by showing the class a story created in Photo Story.
- The teacher will then explain step by step how to create the story.
Procedures:
- Students will decide on their hero.
- Students will list qualities of their hero.
- Students will create a storyboard of their story listing the qualities.
- Students will find pictures of their hero.
- Once storyboards are complete, students will import pictures into Photo Story 3.
- Students will then label the pictures.
- Students will add music to their story.
- Finally, students will present their story to the class.
Plan for Independent Practice:
Students will work on storyboard in the classroom. Once the storyboards are complete, the class will report to the computer lab where they will work independently on the computers opening Photo Story 3 and creating their presentations.
Closure: Teacher will have a discussion with students. Teacher will ask the students what qualities make a hero. Students will also be asked why they chose their hero. Students will explain how creating a
presentation in Photo Story 3 is different from other presentations they have created.
Assessment: Students will be graded based on the criteria set forth in the assignment goals and objectives.
- Must have a storyboard rough draft.
- Was able to successfully import pictures and label them.
- Story must contain music.
- Must be able to save project and convert into .wmv file.
- Must present story to class.
Adaptations: Depending on what the student's disability is, the student’s assignment will be modified to give the student an opportunity to successfully complete the assignment.
Extensions: Students will be given the opportunity to add narration to their story as well as add transitions to their pictures.
Possible Connections to Other Subjects:
This assignment could be connected to English class by having students create a story about their favorite author. It can also be used in history class to talk about a famous historical figure.
