Objective:
    (A) The student will demonstrate knowledge and appropriate use of hardware components, software programs, and their connections.

    (B) The student uses a variety of strategies to acquire information from electronic resources (Internet), with appropriate supervision.
Materials
    1. Computer with access to the Internet
    2. Computer with MS-Word or any other word processing software
    3. Textbook (optional)
    4. Other textual references (optional)
Activity
    Students will complete the activity for each of the four centers. (Instructions for each center are within the center's instructions.)
Assessment
    Students will complete worksheets for each activity and turn them in for grading.
In the Technology Center you will learn the next OBJECTIVES:
    1. How Does It Work?

    TEKS/TAKS OBJECTIVES:
    The student describes how a systems model can be used to describe computer hardware and software. Identify the inputs, processes, outputs, and feedback associated with computer applications. 13.(c)(1)(B)

    The student applies computer technology to specific tasks. Identify and describe the roles of computer technology. (13.(c)(2)(B))

    TEKS/TAKS OBJECTIVES:
    The student develops computer systems using the appropriate resources. Describe the properties and characteristics of computer-related hardware and software. (13.(c)(6)(A))

    4. Presidential Cyber Hunt

    TEKS/TAKS OBJECTIVES:
    The student solves problems, thinks critically, and makes decisions related to technology. Apply critical-thinking strategies to the analysis and evaluation of proposed technological solutions. (13.(c)(2)(B))



Instructions for the Technology Center:
    1. Before you start, go through the next forms in your assigned folder, read and complete the portion required on each form:
      a. Contract Sheet
      b. Activity Planning Sheet
      c. Center Sheet

    2. Select any one (1) of the activities from each center and complete.

    3. If you need to continue your activity the next time, make sure your report your progress in your "Contract Sheet."

    4. Have your teacher revise your work for grading.

Computer Software Activity -- Instructions

TEKS/TAKS OBJECTIVE:
The student applies computer technology to specific tasks. Identify and describe the roles of computer technology. (13.(c)(2)(B))
    1. In your worksheet you will find a list of software applications. Go through the list and find a definition for each part on the Internet or another resource. (Use your favorite search engine if you choose to use the Internet.)

    2. After you find all the definitions, go to your computer and create the next documents:

      a. Write a word processing document explaining the experience through the activity. How long did it take you to complete the activity? Which resources did you used? What part of the activity did you like the best?

      b. In your Drawing program, make a picture and insert it in a word processing document. Around your picture, write a story about the picture. Your story should be at least half page long without counting the picture space.

      c. Create a spreadsheet with a budget for a month. If you don't have your own budget, ask someone who does or research it.

      d. Create a presentation about what you have learned in this activity. Make sure you have a minimum of 8 slides.

      e. Create a database that includes every student in this class. Include the next fields: First Name, Last Name, Address, City, State, Zip Code, and Telephone Number (including area code).
