Title - Drawing your Summer Vacation
By - Allie Ray
Primary Subject - Art
Secondary Subject - Other
Grade Level - K-6

Note:
This is a twist to the "What I did on my Summer Vacation" lesson for the first day of school. It is a great icebreaker in any class.
Procedure:
When the students walk in, give them a blank piece of paper. On one side, have them write their name. On the other side, they are to draw what they did on their summer vacation. Be sure to emphasize they cannot use any words and that stick figures are just fine.

After they are done, trade papers, and then have the new student try to guess what the other student did on vacation based on their drawings. The results can be quite humorous, especially if you have non-artists in your class. After that, make sure the student describes what they actually did on vacation.
