Middle School

Art Rules Sit in your assigned seat. Work Quietly. If you are talking, you are not working (demo bell). Raise your hand to speak or ask a question (raise a hand to demo). Work on your project. Clean up your area before you leave. Put it back where you got it (demo). Make marker lids snap (demo). Other materials, you will be given instructions at the five-minute warning. Listen to them. Be prepared to leave on time. If you are late, you are "stealing" time from the next class. You will be given a warning about time left. It means slow down and come to a stop, not keep on going. Put your name and grade on your project. 5 points of PPB. If there is no name, the project is posted as not handed in, which makes a 0 for a grade until you correct it and turn it in again. It counts as five points of PPB. Respect yourself and others. Do unto others. Be a friend. Class rules are based upon the laws of society, and what it takes to be a good citizen. Use tools for their intended purpose only, according to safety precautions, and in designated areas. Safety rules protect your freedom. A rule is just eighty million years of mistakes boiled down to one sentence. If there's a rule, it's because some idiot did that, and it didn't work out very well, then another idiot did the same thing, and it still didn't work well. Then, after a while, all the smart people got together and said, "you know, there are just too many idiots out there. Let's make a rule and put it on a sign, and then all the idiots will know what to do." If you break a rule, you are not proving that I don't have power over you. I already know that you have free will. So if you break a rule, you're just proving that you're just another idiot. Learn from other people's mistakes because you don't have enough time to make all of them yourself. There are no second chances on safety. If you break a safety rule, you will lose the right to use that tool, it will be taken away, and you will get whatever grade you have at that point. Your first assignment is to earn my trust. The more I trust the class, the more I will let you do. If I can't trust you with a pencil, I'm not going to give you a knife. This is a group contingency plan.

Middle School


• Write a class room mission statement about what our goals are, and what we promise to do.
  
• Fill out a 1, 2, 3, art sheet; one thing I don't like to do, two things I learned last year, and three things I would like to learn this year.
  
  Grades 3-5
  
  
• Write "Art Is" and put it in the center of a bulletin board.
• Ask students for definitions (raising hands practice).
• Have the student write their answer on a scrap of construction paper (different sizes and shapes) and add it to the board to make a collage.
  
  Grades K-2
  
  
• Let me get to know you. Draw a picture of what you did over the summer.
• If there is time, do show and tell.
• Demo how to put the lid on the back of the marker.

• The student listened to the presentation.
  
• The student filled out the paper work.
  
• The student made the project.
