Title: Computer Wallpaper (technology)

Grade: upper elementary

Materials: computer

illustration software (Painter, which comes with Windows is fine.)

Objectives: Students will create a wallpaper for the computer.

Students will use a series of figures to create a pattern.

Students will demonstrate the ability to use the copy and paste function of a computer.

Procedure:

Computers many times have wallpaper as their background. In this assignment, students will create their own wallpaper.

The teacher will demonstrate how to use the draw program, emphasizing the copy and paste features. Students will draw their wallpaper schemes -- it must be a pattern of some sort.

This assignment can be an on-going project for students who greatly enjoy using the computer. This will probably be a very time-consuming project because of the learning curve involved in understanding the software.

Evaluation: The teacher should watch the student as she/he makes her wallpaper to see if he/she demonstrates adequate knowledge of the program, especially the copy/paste features.

Enrichment Activities: Computer illustration is endless is possibilities. This assignment is a good beginning for students who have not used a computer draw package before, however it is challenging enough for students who are very familiar with computers.
