Title – Computer Art Surrealist Cubes By – Stephanie Slatner Primary Subject – Art Secondary Subjects – Computers/Intenet, Language Arts Grade Level – 7-12 Computer ART I Surrealist Squares Amount of time: 2 WEEKS Final product overview: Student will create 6 different surrealist images to glue onto a cube that they will measure and assemble. They will understand the meaning behind creating surrealist art and be able to talk about some of the masters of surrealism. Materials: Poster Board, Black Construction Paper, Scissors, Glue, Pastel and Colored Pencils, Magazines (Assorted) Standards of Learning covered by this project:
AI.8 The student will create works of art that are original and represent personal expression AI.17 The student will describe the function, purpose, and perceived meanings of specific works of art. AI.20 The student will critique works of art with reference to the elements of art and the principles of design. Project Day by Day:
Students will get into pairs and will be given the name of an artist. They will create a slide presentation that will tell the history of the artist, when they were born, where they went to school, any interesting facts about their life, and when they died or if they were still alive. Then they will show us at least three examples of work by the artist including the date and title. We will discuss these works of art in class when presented. Day Two: Day Three – Six: Final Product: Cube with surrealist image on each side completely created by the students. Additionally there will be homework to prepare students for upcoming projects of previously learned ideas. There will also be at least two journal days that students will be asked to critique a famous work of surrealist art. Before this project has begun, students will be responsible for finding the definition of surrealism to begin to understand the concept.
