Objective: For students to learn about Australian Aboriginal art and to be inspired to produce their own art work.

Materials: Aboriginal myths and legends, painting materials, long cardboard tubes.

Procedure: Display Aboriginal myths and legends in a special section of the classroom. Discuss Aboriginal culture as you read them to your students. Look at the illustrations closely focussing on

   - color
- subject
- technique
  

Use similar colors, subjects and techniques in own art works.

Examples of Activities:

   - Dot paintings
- Decorate long tubes as didgeridoos.
- Paint Australian animals using specific colors.
- Incorporate hand prints into paintings.
- Collage using different colored seeds sprinkled onto glued
  paper. (The paper can be in fancy shapes such as boomerang or
  turtle shaped)
- Use black, red and yellow to produce reproductions of the
  Aboriginal flag.
- Design own patterned frames (can be made from black display
  paper) and display work in them.
Results:
- This unit of work works best if done over several weeks,
  integrated throughout the curriculum. The result will be a
  vibrant and exciting classroom display which children gain
  pride from as well as cultural knowledge.
