Title – American Gothic Parodies By – Stephanie Slatner Primary Subject – Art Secondary Subjects - Grade Level – 6-12 The students have learned the background history of Grant Wood’s “American Gothic.” Then the students viewed a few artists who have created parodies to the American Gothic Idea. We talked about what is always the same, the roles of the two people in the painting and how they might have changed today. Their responses were very insightful and their own renditions were even more exciting! They also got to learn a little art history in the process!
